Keeping the Dream Alive! Since 1999, The Friends of the Carousel is a not-for-profit organization in partnership with the City of St. Catharines

The impact from the Lakeside Park Carousel began in 1921, continuing through today and into the future from the time it first joined an established major tourist attraction in 1921.  Millions of people have ridden and enjoyed ‘making memories’ and continues to draw 300,000 +/- local residents and tourists each Carousel season.  While here, many enjoy other amenities in the area including restaurants, shops, and hotels.

The one remaining original Looff Lion is a very significant asset in the City of St. Catharines’ art collection.

Through the years, with its backdrop against Lake Ontario, the Beach and Lighthouse, the Lakeside Park Carousel has been included in most of the marketing and promotional materials of the City of St. Catharines and the Region – often accompanied by pictures - showcasing this as one of the many attractions and areas to enjoy while visiting St. Catharines and the Niagara Region.

A partnership between The City of St. Catharines and The Friends of the Carousel began in 1999 with the common goal to preserve this historical artifact that is important to the heritage and culture of St. Catharines. Schools use the Carousel as part of their local history studies and enjoy Leofest, an annual school program. Parties, Weddings and Wedding photo’s reserve The Carousel to be a part of their memorable days. Local businesses sponsor Free Ride Days. Souvenirs are sold. Events held in the park – either from the City, Region, or private, include The Carousel as part of their draw and event activities.

The Lakeside Park Carousel literally touches the hearts, makes memories, and continues to be a draw for people of all ages, and has done so since it first arrived in St. Catharines in 1921.
